Montserrat Market in Nou Barris
-
Barcelona
The new building is between Les Torres and Aiguablava streets in Barcelona’s Nou Barris district. It has a gross floor area of more than 9.000 m² spread across five floors; two underground levels, one semi-underground level and two aboveground levels:
The surroundings have a significant slope which is addressed with entrances on two levels.
The building is semi-underground and so its impact on these surroundings is very low.
The public parking area is on the first basement floor with access from Les Torres Street.
The same entrance leading to the second basement floor provides access to the loading and unloading area, all kinds of waste facilities, the stallholders’ storerooms and the systems areas, meaning all logistics operations are on the basement floors and do not impact the aboveground area.
The new building combines reinforced concrete structural components (retaining walls, columns and slabs), metal columns and beams, and a large lightweight roof supported on wooden trusses.
