Port Iquique. Berthing line replacement
-
Chile
Due to the earthquakes that hit the Tarapacá region in April of 2014, berthing line No. 1 at the Port of Iquique was significantly damaged, rendering sites 1 and 2 unusable.
The repair project involves the refurbishment of Berthing Line 1, comprising Sites 1 and 2, and the repair of the sea defense works in the same sector, as well as the restoration of the esplanade paving, electrical and lighting networks, and drinking water, sewerage, and firefighting networks.
After a thorough engineering study to identify the best solution, it was decided to repair the berthing and sea defense structures by installing:
• 1.247 smooth hollow N80 steel pipe micro-piles measuring 139,7 mm in outer diameter and 17 mm thick, with an average length of approximately 33 m/unit for a total length of 41,088 meters of micro-piling.
