Port Museum renovation

  • Tarragona

This detached building, measuring 116 m long and 22 m wide, takes up 11 of the building's 16 porticos. It has one area with a ground floor and mezzanine, and another with only a ground floor with double-height ceilings.
The purpose of the building renovation is to provide upgraded facilities with a substantial improvement in the current conditions in terms of systems and interior finishes.

• Implementation and preliminary work. Removal of interior systems. Dismantling, transfer, and storage of existing exhibition materials and equipment (reinstallation is not addressed in this phase).
• Demolitions and earthworks. Complete dismantling of the existing sandwich roof, with prior removal of the metal tiles for their subsequent reuse on the new roof. Dismantling existing systems and demolition of false ceilings. Demolition of existing walls and partitions. Digging trenches and shafts for the construction of the footings for the new staircases and drainage for the new toilets.
• Foundations and structures. Construction of footings and slabs in concrete and corrugated steel. Main staircase's pillar and slab, with self-compacting architectural concrete. The stair's pillar, slab, and the entire railing and mezzanine floor will be constructed with textured surface relief formwork using disposable plastic sheets with a wood-like relief on one side. Structural wall made of reinforced concrete blocks. Metal structure with rolled steel in new roof purlins, formation of support structure for the secondary staircase and mezzanine overhang. Galvanized metal structure in individual support elements.
• Roofs. New sandwich panel roof. Repositioning reused metal roof tiles. Fitting gutters and downspouts with lacquered steel sheet.
