Renovation of the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel

  • Barcelona

The building covered by the project is the current AC Diplomatic Hotel, which was built in two phases: the first in the late 1960s and the second in the early 1970s, based on designs by Luis Tusquets Terrats and Manuel Subiñó Ripoll, respectively. The building has a total of five basement floors, a ground floor + mezzanine, ten upper floors, and rooftop units for systems. This volume is the result of various building permits, extensions, and renovations from 1965 to the present, according to the following history of permits compiled from information provided by the property owner and the Barcelona Municipal Contemporary Archive. The work comprises two distinct projects. One is architectural, by the Spanish architectural firm CC245, and the other is interior design and decoration, by the London-based architectural firm GIAD.

Description of the solution adopted:

The proposal stems from BCN Diplomatic SL's decision to upgrade the current hotel to Renaissance brand standards, keeping the existing building volume virtually intact without affecting its structure, renovating and improving it in terms of interior finishes (flooring, coverings, and decoration) and systems, mainly fire protection and ventilation. In terms of decorative finishes and furniture, all international Marriott brands and items are used, and original and innovative alternatives are sought from brands and companies in Spain. This applies to vertical coverings, ceilings, and flooring, as well as furniture, sofas, leather, and all kinds of original and new finishes.
