Highway B-40. Olesa de Montserrat-Viladecavalls section
Key infrastructure for industrial and business growth in the area, directly connecting the counties of el Baix Llobregat and el Vallès Occidental which are the industrial driving force of Catalonia.
The section of the B-40 highway between Olesa de Montserrat and Viladecavalls runs between the eastern bank of the Llobregat River and the C-16 Terrassa-Manresa toll highway. The 6.3 km section of highway has three lanes per carriageway, each 3.50 m wide, with a 2.50 m outer shoulder and a 1.50 m inner shoulder. Eight viaducts have been built to cross various ravines and create the roadways needed for the several intersections.
This section features the Voltrera tunnel, consisting of two bores approximately 1,250 m long connected by four galleries. The section has been constructed to blend in seamlessly with the environment, in particular through the work carried out to deal with a former uncontrolled landfill site.
